Rakiraki Primary School:

The children at this school at present have inadequate fresh water and sanitation facilities. Many of the children are suffering from trachoma, which, if left untreated, can lead to blindness. Trachoma results from insufficient facial washing. Eye secretions accumulate and attract flies, which carry the infection.

We plan to a)   Provide a sanitation block

                  b)   Provide water storage tanks

[We are currently applying for funding towards a) and b)]

                  c)   Produce worksheets and run a training programme to emphasise the

                         importance of hygiene

d)      Supply the antibiotic medication necessary to treat the children already

showing the early signs of trachoma. We estimate that a full course of

treatment for these children will cost about £500 and it is something

that needs to be administered as soon as possible.

ANY DONATION TO HELP WITH THE FUNDING OF THIS PROJECT WOULD BE VERY GRATEFULLY RECEIVED
